For 2008 the Ford Taurus is redesigned with improved power and a new, refreshing styling. This four-door sedan shares a similar platform with the 2008 Mercury Sable and Ford Taurus X sport utility vehicle. The 2008 Ford Taurus features two models, SEL and Limited. Both are available with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, and come with a powertrain warranty of five years or 60,000 miles.

A 260-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 is the only engine offered.  The SEL FWD achieves 18 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. The Limited AWD gives 17 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. A six-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is now standard on both trims, replacing the earlier CVT transmission.

Ford has totally redesigned the front end, with contemporary styling featuring a large three-bar horizontal grille, new mirrors, huge headlamp units, big driving lamps, new bumpers, and revamped hood and fenders. Revised tail lamps, improved rear quarter panels, a deck lid and dual exhaust notes bring up the rear.

The Taurus offers a high seating position, excellent visibility, comfortable and supportive bucket seats, and a compact dashboard. A roomy cabin and trunk add up to 129 cubic feet of interior space. Standard features include air conditioning, power steering, power disc brakes, keyless entry, power windows, power locks, power mirrors, console, cruise control, message center, trip computer, fog lights and AM/FM/CD equipment.

Available safety features include anti-lock brakes, traction control, anti-skid system, curtain side air bags, and front side air bags. Electronic stability control is optional. The new Taurus has been declared the Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
