| Overview The 2010 Ford Explorer Sport Trac is a 4-door, 5-passenger mid-size sport-utility vehicle available in XLT and Limited trims. The Sport Trac is known for its comfortable cabin, available V8 power, superior towing capacity and top-notch safety scores. Available in both 4x2 and 4x4 versions, the Sport Trac is an SUV modified to include a small pickup-like cargo bed. Power and performance A 4.0L SOHC V6 engine with 5-speed automatic transmission which provides an impressive combination of power and value is standard. The smooth and quiet power plant pumps out 210 hp and 254 lb ft of torque while delivering an EPA-estimated 14 city/20 highway mpg (4x2) and 13 city/19 highway mpg (4x4).
The 4.6L V8 engine available with the SportTrac Limited and with the Adrenalin Package features 3 valves per cylinder and advanced dual-equal variable cam timing technology. It churns out 292 horsepower, 315 lb ft of torque, and impressive EPA-estimated 15 city/21 highway fuel economy (4x2) with the six-speed automatic transmission. The 4.6L V8 is available on SportTrac Limited and with the Adrenalin Package.
The Sport Trac offers 37.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the cab. When properly equipped, the Sport Trac with the 4.0L V6 engine tows up to 5,250 lbs and the one with the 4.6L 3V V8 tows up to 7,160 lbs. Electronic Trailer Sway Control is standard. Class III/IV trailer tow packages with higher towing capacity are available.
Body and styling The standard equipment of the 2010 Ford Explorer Sport Trac include Chrome 3-bar grille with nostrils, composite material cargo box with 3 gear bins, fog lamps, power-sliding rear window, front bucket seats with 2-way adjustable head restraints, 60/40 split-folding rear seats, manual air conditioning, AM/FM stereo/single-CD player, auxiliary audio input jack, leather-wrapped steering wheel with cruise control and secondary audio controls, power windows, SIRIUS Satellite Radio with 6-month subscription and a large overhead console.
The XLT is equipped with all standard features, plus 16-inch painted cast-aluminum wheels with 235/70R16 all-season OWL tires, black bumpers and wheel-lip moldings, black roof side rails, black door handles and sideview mirror caps, cloth-trimmed seating, molded-rubber flooring, heavy-duty berber floor mats and a 2-line message center with outside temperature display.
The Sport Trac Limited features 18-inch chrome-clad aluminum wheels with P235/65R18 all-season OWL tires, monochromatic exterior appearance, automatic headlamps, SecuriCode keyless-entry keypad, leather-trimmed seating with heated front bucket seats, 10-way power driver seat and 4-way manual passenger seat, Premium Sound System with 6-disc in-dash CD changer with subwoofer and 190 watts, Ford SYNC voice-activated, in-vehicle communications and entertainment system, message center compass display and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.
The Adrenalin package is equipped with select standard Limited features, plus 20-inch polished-aluminum wheels with P255/50R20 all-season BSW tires, black grille, unique front and rear fascias, fender vents, headlamps and fog lamps, running boards, single rear-exit exhaust with dual chrome tip, Adrenalin tailgate badge, charcoal Black instrument panel, seats, door-trim inserts, and center console lid, camel headliner, charcoal black leather-trimmed heated front bucket seats with perforated-leather inserts and Adrenalin-branded floor mats.
A number of packages are available on all trims. The Ford SYNC Communications and Entertainment System, standard in the Limited and optional in the XLT, is a state-of-the-art, voice-activated system that fully integrates Bluetooth-enabled mobile phones and digital media players. The optional voice-activated Navigation System provides many navigational features including detailed freeway exit, turn and ramp transition lane guidance; street name announcement; and current location display. The system comes with a 10GB hard drive for storing photos, ripping CDs, and managing music with the Jukebox function.
